Interesting... I thought that the Taiwanese spoke mostly Mandarin, or a version of it...

I think that saying Taiwanese people are greater than Chinese people might be offensive.

taiwanese kids get pissed off because of what their parents told them about the chinese people from mainland.
the ones who live in more rural places are very rude and such
but the ones who live near more populated areas arent like the big cities.

theres more i can say and be more clear but im too lazy rite now..back to d2 b4 marv kills me

i think it's rude to refer to them as chinese people. By doing so, you are effectually not recognizing their country as legitamate, and not acknowledging its sovereignty. Should we call white people (assuming proper descent) who are in teh United States English then? Of course not, if they were born here then they are American, the same goes with taiwan. It doesn't matter where they came from, if they are part of a different country....just call them by their ACTUAL nationality. Not some derivative. It's insulting i think. They may be chinese by ancestry, but they sure aren't now. I can see why they would get pissed by people calling them chinese, because that word doesn't just entail a race, it entails a nationality with it...and Taiwan is not china. Simple as that.

So, are we all African then? I mean, our ancestors probably were from there.

hmm, interesting... if they want to be known as different than chinese, let them... I mean, they're from Taiwan... etc etc... so why not?

just like when other asian races get called chinese and are offended or sick of it... refer back to the thread that someone started called "being called chinese" or something like that...

My post is not intended to be mean in any way and if I offended someone, I'm seriously, absolutely sorrie

I believe that was the point of her post. Taiwanese should be refered to as "taiwanese" because that is their nationality. However their ethnicity (for a large part of the population) remains chinese.
