You guys notice how Neo in Matrix Revolutions and Arwen in The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King both said that they choose to do whatever they do when asked why they do it, or something along those lines?

I think that the script writers thought it was cool to come up with circular answers, but somehow I think that the two similar dialogues have a somewhat religious overtone as to why people do what they do, including believing in a faith
