in order to start entering multiplayer games, you have to finish basic infantry training (m-16, obstacle, other weapons, MOUT). The other training like the sniper courses (requires an m-16 score of at least 36/40- took me a while but i got it whoop), airborne, and medic are not required.
So just finish the basic training and hit the deployment button. Then refresh servers. It's probably easier to connect from gamespy or some other service because IMO the ingame menu is notoriously bad.
