Better to break bones than sprain ankles
Introduction first
Bones: Extremely active tissue despite its inert appearance. Has numerous blood vessels running through, and cells are constantly rebuilding, resorbing, and depositing bone. Very tough due to inorganic salts (ie calcium)
Cartilage: Elastic tissue found in areas that need cushions and shock absorption. No blood vessels. Nourished by blood found in surrounding tissues through diffusion.
I'm not recommending anyone to break bones on PURPOSE, but when bones regrow, they grow back stronger than before. Also, they heal a lot faster than cartilage. When an ankle is sprained, the cartilage that binds it is snapped. That cartilage repairs slow compare to bone (because bone has a good supply of blood and cartilage has a poor supply). Also, cartilage wears down with time. In extreme cases, surgery is needed to provide replacements for worn down cartilage
