50, Jay-Z Teaming Up Again For Rock The Mic Mixtape

After hearing that they'd signed on to tour together and seeing their Reebok commercial, you kind of got the feeling it would only be a matter of time before 50 Cent and Jay-Z put their brains together for more collaborations.

While you probably don't want to start camping out at your favorite retail store awaiting an official LP, it might not be a bad idea to check in with your local bootlegger during the next few weeks, because a Rock the Mic mixtape is in the works.

"We always put out a mixtape 'cause you gotta keep your presence in the street," 50 said a couple of weeks ago in Cleveland, having just stepped out of the vocal booth on his G-Unit studio tour bus. "A lot of artists' houses are built on toothpicks, but the street is the foundation. [The fans] got a little attention span, so if you don't stay in front of them, the next guy can come [and take your spot]."

Besides G-Unit material, 50 said he has seven tracks for the mixtape from Young Hova and the Roc-A-Fella family, which includes the State Property clique and Memphis Bleek. And if you ask Snoop Dogg, who rocked the mic a couple of weeks ago, the self-proclaimed "Prime Minister" of the West Coast is also ready to make some more music with his magic stick-wielding homey.

"We talked about it yesterday as a matter of fact," Snoop said of collaborating again with 50 and some of his other Rock the Mic tourmates. "We was in 50's dressing room watching the ['P.I.M.P.' remix] video for the first time and it was like, 'Man, we need to go and do something.' I was like, 'I wanna make a movie.' We just need to make something happen. We just love each other so much we should do it instead of talking about it. That's what a lot of us don't capitalize on — we wait until we're dead and gone or either we have bad times. We're all havin' fun right now. This is the best time to capitalize on it, when everybody is loving each other."
