the role of an older sibling

a couple of days ago my sister told me that she was going to go out with her friends and that she would be home before our parents got home. i said fine. the next day, my parents unexpectedly come home early and are very alarmed at finding ym sister missing. they ask me where she is, but i tried to cover for her. they just got angrier and when my sister finally got home they blew up at both of us. we're both being punished. my mom and dad say that as a big sister, i should assume more responsibility and try to protect and guide my little sister. i think my sister is old enough to decide for herself what course of action to follow. besides, it's not like i've never went out without telling my parents first (i guess they just don't know). if it were you, would you have covered for your sibling?

It depends on the situation. If I know she's doing something she's not supposed to, then I won't. But most of the time, I don't because I know that if I do, I'll get into trouble from my parents... because they find out some way anyways...

for instance, I could tell my dad a whole different story and when my sister gets home, she can tell him another whole different story... then she's busted... and so am I for lying...

besides that, I can't lie to my parents... I've never had the guts to lie...

so the role of an older sister...

my younger sisters believe that the role of an older sister is to do everything they do, and accept everything they do as right. They think that I, as the older sister, should stop telling them what to do...

But, they have to understand my point of view. I'm the oldest and my parents believe that if they do anything wrong, it's my fault. Everything they do always comes back to me, the oldest sister. So that's why I yell at them (because when I speak nicely, they don't listen anyways). I approach them with what I believe and try to make them understand---at least to a point. jeebus, I could go on and on but I'll stop here... for now.

so basically, I think the role of an older sibling is to act upon things in a well manner. show them what is wrong, and what is right. and basically watch out for them. of course, they'll think you're a pain in the butt, but I've always thought that:

Those who care, will yell at you. Those who don't, won't say anything.

I'd elaborate more but again, later... besides, my brain's not working!

that's true; i mean, yelling is better than silence, which my sister and i had at one point. we just didn't talk.
but i mean, i thought sisters were supposed to be friends too. obviously, we're not supposed to let them get into major trouble, but should we stop them from just a little harmless fun? i wud feel like a mom myself if i didn't let her do anything. that's not to say everything she wants to do is bad, but there are some things parents don't sympathize to...

In some things, I would cover for my brother...esp. if I know it'll make a mountain out of a molehill of a situation. BUT I would not cover for anything that he knows is WRONG to do...meaning..he already asked the 'rents and they already refused....

Kinda doesn't make any sense huh??
