| Well, of course it is a perfect name if you think of it in the context you did, where they are just opposites.  I agree with that sentiment, i am saying i think the naming of it is sloppy.  I think real is a not really an outstanding name as well.  tangible and intangible are basically connotating at the same idea as real and imaginary.  People have a hard time seeing passed the word "imaginary," and understandably so.
 Because of the unnecesary confusion, i would prefer it if real numbers were called something else (i need to think of a sufficient name), and for imaginary numbers to be called lateral numbers.
