are u planning to use just linux or have a dual os thing w/ windows also? personally, i prefer linux over macs, but my peripherals were as old as crap, n some didnt work rite w/ linux.......i dont kno too much about this, but i believe that linux can work well with many hardware configurations, and not too overly difficult

Choices

I used linux alot and also mac.

If you should get either one of them , for linux, i would get Linux Mandrake 8.0 or the latest one. Has windows displays, plus if you have network in your home, it would automatically find it and install the drivers for you.

For mac , get the New Jaguar. I heard from people that its smooth and crashes less.

not to get anal or anything, but i see a lot of terminology errors so i really wonder if some of you guys actually know what you're talking about. its x-windows implemented by xfree86 not 'window dispaly'. all linux distros implement x-windows, not just mandrake. and the term 'shell' or 'console' is the more often used than 'terminals'. it was ms who popularized the term terminals.

but yes, mandrake is the linux of choice for consumers while redhat is more for servers and workstations. i never tried mandrake so i cant really say anythign about it but i didnt like redhat. so im using suse. and i never used mac os x but its based on unix... bsd if i am corrent. so i suppose it would be much like any other linux environment, except nicer graphically (because its apple). but i never really read into it so i wouldnt know.

so i guess what it comes down to is.. your personal preference. try all the distro's you care to download and see what you like the most.

No prob JSL.
Anyway, if you want to erase linux from your system...use the fdisk /mbr or else it won't be easy removal.

yeah the new one looks pretty cool with the design and everything, but me personally i wouldnt buy a mac again. they dont support all games, all programs and bunches of other things.
