Bill Gates came to Columbia last year, in October, and gave a talk about technology and the future and stuff. One of the coolest parts was when he demoed a few technologies that are "on the horizon", including a table that would interact with everything. You could put your phone on the table, and it would recognize it as your phone. Then you press your fingerprint on a contact point, and it "signs" you in, sort of. From there you can do all sorts of stuff like the basics (email, texting, calling), and one really cool thing where he put a business card on the table, and the phone recognized it and automatically added the number to the contacts.
Yeah, that kind of technology is still years away, but that seriously impressed me.
The last thing that was released that made me think, "Wow, that's pretty cool", was this Internet Tablet from Nokia. Basically a portable Wi-Fi device with a very, very good display and just the ability to surf. It's a bit on the pricey side, though, so I never bought it, but it was certainly really cool. Oh word. And then you can place the morally cognizant laser gun on the table and it interacts with it and turns into a stand alone gun turret. And that Nokia thing better have a "lock in in a non gay way" feature.
