all i can really say in response to this debate is that religion has never been a large part of my life(i was brought up in an athiest sense) is that if there is a god i believe that he made the world and did what deists believe, and also what makes the most sense to me. he stepped back, and like a clock keeper or worker(that works with clocks setting them lol) stepped back and let the world just work. though this was a more popular belief during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, i still feel that it has signifigance today. i dont believe that god has an active part in my life or in the calvinist belief of predestination, but i also dont believe that "it" did not much more than create what we cannot explain. i do not believe either that god is a man or has a male form also. i believe that it is an energy present in the universe that put together the universe as we know it. i believe that something had to make the universe to begin, but not in the whole "god made the universe in seven days" thinking. i dont see where christians get their belief that god made man when there is almost concrete proof of evolution.
quote: 3rd Christianity is the only faith that has miracles backed up by history. Islam and Buddhism may claim they have had miracles, but they really have no proof to back it up. The resurrection is the major miracle that can be verified by history.
i believe that this an opinion more than anything else and is not very relevant. "Christianity is the only faith that has miricles bades on history" is true to a person of the christian faith. what makes this true but not what is said by others true? "Islam and Buddhism may claim that they have had miricles." they claim they have had miricles the same way christians claim theyve had miricles. the history backing up the miricles jesus performed may be first hand accounts but so are the accounts of other religions. i dont see why you passed these off as claims but your religions miricles off as real backed up by history. i dont see what makes every printed word in the bible true but the ones in the torah and querhan(sp?) not. i know that there is proof of the existance of jesus christ, but the miricles performed by him are only backed up by his religious followers, not by someone who was of another belief and gave a primary source of this man doing these things.
quote: We are a corrupt and perverse people, this can be seen throughout history (war, death, destruction, sexual perversion, and steven seagal movies *sorry i just had to put that ) The only way we can be saved is by believing that Jesus Christ came, died, and rose again to rectify our sinful state.
this is yet another opinion. why can someone not achieve salvation by living a good life and repecting our fellow man? if man is naturally corrupt, why wouldnt we have to do something to become good and achieve salvation. i believe that the things we do in life account for where we will be destined to go if there is an afterlife. to me, believing in the story of jesus christ is not sufficent means for being welcomed into heaven
quote: Christianity is not about doing or not doing. Whereas in other religions it is stated that if you do this or if you do that then you can gain salvation. Christianity is the complete opposite. It starts out by saying that nothing we can do can earn salvation.
christianity is not about doing, how come we must believe in jesus christ to achieve salvation? why, just because christianity if different from other religions, is it right, making the others wrong.
