tennis conditioning

anyone here starting their tennis condtioning yet? me, im trying to start early. it's going to be my last year of hs tennis, so im gonna try to be in the best condition i can be.

as for my workout, im gonna run 2miles a night, and gradually increase that. then pushups and sit ups after.

then i am planning to go to the gym and strengthen my legs and shoulders about 3 times a week.

wat do you guys think? and wat would u add or take away? please contribute.

i'm not going to do anything as serious, cause i'm really weak. i'm probably just gonna work on my running, maybe build up some arm strength. hope to see you when we play you guys! (i'm probably not going to make varsity this year though)

stairs...lots of stairs.

Imitate stroke motions with medicine balls.

A fair amount of long distance running would help as well- even though tennis is mostly short spurts of energy use, long distance conditioning will help with those long 5 setters.

Weight room will definately help. Focus on the torso/abdominal area- that's where a lot of power comes from. And do a lot of leg strengthening.

well, a ballmachine is the straight-foward answer. Hitting a thousand or so balls each day will help.

Doubles matches will help your net game and strategy

for strokes, hit against the wall to get the same swing all the time, and for the net game, play doubles.

i never had all the tennis equipment wen i learned how to play. i never had any training or lessons or camps. i just learned by watching matches on tv. i remember just using 3 balls to learn how to serve, then i would walk to the other side and serve them back. i like that fact that i havent taken lessons in my life, it feels good that i taught myself something, and that im somewhat good at it.
